Curated
About Curated

A list you can actually stand on.

Curated is a hand-built specialty-coffee directory for Los Angeles. Every room here was visited, sat in, and tested — for the coffee, and for whether you can get a real afternoon of work done in it.

Most coffee guides are either a map of stars you can't interrogate or a list of outlets and wifi bars with no taste behind them. We wanted the thing in between: a guide written by people who care about the cup and understand what it takes to spend three hours at the table — strong wifi, a free outlet, a seat you can keep, and coffee that earns it.

So we built one room at a time. We order an espresso and a filter. We ask who roasts the beans. We time the wifi, count the outlets, and find out whether a laptop is welcome or merely tolerated. Then a named curator makes the call against a published standard — and dates it, so you always know how fresh the read is.

How we work

Every room, visited

Nothing makes the list from a phone. We go, we order, we sit, and we test the things that actually matter at hour three — then we write it down.

Coffee first

The cup carries as much of the standard as the room. A beautiful space with mediocre espresso doesn't get a pass, and we'll always tell you who's roasting the beans.

Honest about trade-offs

Some of the best coffee in LA is poured in rooms you can't work in. Work-friendliness is a filter you set yourself, never part of the assessment, and we name the tension out loud.

Dated and attributed

Every listing carries a curator and a real last-verified date. When a room changes, you can see how current our read is.

Who's behind the list

The Curated desk

Lead curator

Specialty coffee since the third-wave moved west — espresso pulled, pour-overs dialled, and far too many laptops opened at the corner table. Makes the call on the cup, the room, and the program, and signs off everything that goes in.

Field & verification

Work-test & fact-checking

Runs the work-test in the room, not from a spreadsheet: wifi timed, outlets counted, seating sat in, and the laptop policy confirmed at the bar. Stamps the date so you always know how fresh the read is.
