A list you can actually stand on
Curated is a hand-built specialty-coffee directory for Los Angeles. When a room carries the Curated badge, we are recognizing two things at once: the coffee, and the world built around it. In the shops we care about, those are never separate.
Most coffee guides are either a map of stars you can't interrogate or a list of outlets and wifi bars with no taste behind them. We wanted the thing in between: a guide written by people who care about the cup and understand what it takes to work somewhere for three hours: strong wifi, a free outlet, a seat you can keep, and coffee that earns the visit.
So every shop is read against one standard: the coffee program and its sourcing, the roaster behind the bar, and whether the space has a point of view of its own. The work-test facts (wifi, outlets, seating, the laptop policy) sit alongside it as their own thing, never blended into the judgement. Then a curator makes the call against a published standard.
The badge is a recognition
The badge is the higher call: a shop whose dedication to specialty coffee runs all the way through the brand and the space around it. Listing means a shop met the standard; the badge means it went further.
Coffee first
The cup carries as much of the standard as the room. A beautiful space with mediocre espresso doesn't get a pass, and we'll always tell you who's roasting the beans.
Honest about trade-offs
Some of the best coffee in LA is poured in rooms you can't work in. Work-friendliness is a filter you set yourself, never part of the assessment, and we name the tension out loud.
The standard is public
Everything a badge is judged on is published on the methodology page. If you think a shop doesn't belong, you can point at the line it fails.
The Curated desk
Specialty coffee since the third-wave moved west, and a long-held conviction that a shop obsessed with the cup is usually obsessed with the room too. Makes the call on the coffee, the space, and the program, and signs off everything that goes in.
Records & verification
Keeps the work-test data honest: wifi, outlets, seating, and the laptop policy, each recorded against published anchors rather than vibes.
