Terms of Use
The plain-English ground rules for using Curated: what the Site is, what you can rely on, and what you can't.
Acceptance
By using Curated (the “Site”), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Site. We may update these terms from time to time; continued use after a change means you accept the revised terms.
What the Site is
Curated is an editorial directory of specialty-coffee cafes in Los Angeles, operated by Upper Supplies, LLC. Reading it is free. An account and a paid membership are both optional, and each is covered below. Listings, scores, and notes reflect our independent opinions and observations at the time they were recorded. They are provided for general information and are not professional advice.
Accuracy and “things change”
Cafes change hours, prices, roasters, and policies, sometimes overnight. We can't guarantee a detail is right at the moment you read it. Confirm anything that matters (hours, laptop policy, accessibility) directly with the cafe before you go.
Editorial independence
Our scores are set by curators against a published method. Cafes cannot pay for a listing, a score, or placement. A cafe appearing on the Site does not imply it endorses us or vice versa.
Your account
You can read the whole Site without an account. Creating one takes a working email address, and signing in with a password requires you to verify it first. Keep your sign-in details to yourself: you are responsible for what happens under your account, and for telling us if you think someone else has it.
You can delete your account yourself, from your account page. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone; the Privacy Policy sets out what it removes and what stays. We may suspend or remove an account for the misuse described below.
What you post
Ratings, the notes on them, comments, photos, and shop facts you contribute stay yours. By posting them you confirm they are your own work or that you have the right to share them, and you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, edit, display, and distribute them on the Site. Deleting your account removes your ratings, notes, comments and uploaded photos; if you would rather leave them on the shop pages without your name, there is a box to tick on the delete card, and this license covers them for as long as they stay up.
Anyone can report a comment, note, photo or profile, and block another member. We remove what breaks these terms and can pause posting from an account that keeps doing it.
Your field notes, your check-ins, and your saved list are private and carry no such license. We do not publish them, and deleting your account deletes them. Everything posted is subject to review: we may decline, edit, or remove any of it, and a curator can take a rating down.
Membership and billing
Membership is a way to support the work. Bourbon is a single payment of $9.99 and the badge it grants does not expire. Gesha is $19.99 charged every three months, renewing automatically until you cancel, and grants the same badge plus early access to new features as they ship, for as long as it runs. Prices are in US dollars, and tax is added at checkout where it applies.
Stripe takes the payment and hosts the billing portal. Manage or cancel a Gesha membership there, through Manage billing on your account page. Cancelling there stops the next charge, and the period you have already paid for runs to its end. A Bourbon payment is not refundable.
Deleting your Curated account is different from cancelling. It cancels any Gesha subscription with Stripe as part of the same step, your membership access ends with the account, and the remainder of a paid period is not refunded. If that cancellation cannot be completed, the account is not deleted, and you can try again.
Submissions and nominations
When you nominate a cafe or otherwise send us content, you confirm the information is accurate to the best of your knowledge and that you have the right to share it. You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, edit, and publish that content in the directory. We review every nomination and may decline or remove any submission at our discretion; nothing is published automatically.
Acceptable use
Don't use the Site to break the law, scrape or republish our content at scale without permission, attempt to disrupt or gain unauthorized access to our systems, or submit content that is false, defamatory, or infringing. We may suspend access for misuse.
Intellectual property
The Site's editorial content, scores, written notes, design, and branding are owned by Curated and protected by applicable law. You may link to and share our pages; you may not copy substantial portions of the directory or pass our content off as your own.
Third-party links
Listings may link to cafe websites, social accounts, maps, and roasters we don't control. We're not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of those third-party sites.
No warranty
The Site is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don't warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any listing is complete or current.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Curated is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Site or reliance on any listing. Your use of the Site is at your own risk.
Changes and contact
