Casa Libre
Curator’s note
The team behind Freelance Coffee Project built Casa Libre to pour only Mexican coffee, convinced that Southern California has overlooked a great coffee origin next door.
A hummingbird-shaped cookie, made for Casa Libre in the market's own bakery.
The coffee
Doña Duglas comes through Café Delas, a program that backs women coffee producers across Mexico, and Ki-Saya is grown organically by Indigenous producers.

The room
Casa Libre is a freestanding casita on the market floor, a few steps from the produce, with two tall glazed arches framed in burgundy and the glass door set in the front one. CASA LIBRE arcs over the entrance with a gold jaguar between the words, and MI CASA ES TU CASA runs along the side wall above a timber bench.
