Curator’s note

Compelling prints the part most roasters keep to themselves: the washing station, the farmer count, and the price paid at origin — $5.70 a pound for the Rwanda Ruli. A company that will tell you what it paid the farmer still won't name the single origin on drip, which is a strange place to stop.

  • Morning takeout
  • Sitting on the patio
  • A short catch-up

The coffee

Compelling roasts its own and sells roast-to-order rather than dated stock, shipping within 48 hours of a Sunday or Wednesday cutoff, with origin pages naming 836 farmers at the Dukunde Kawa washing station for the Rwanda Ruli. That catalog serves all three of the company's cafes; whether any of it is on a shelf in this room is another matter.

Three hundred square feet, built out with local Fathom Design Studio inside the Line Lofts building, with a patio and a takeout window taking the pressure off the floor plan. Small rooms only work when someone drew them on purpose, and someone drew this one.
