Goodboybob Coffee Roasters
Factory brick, marble mosaic and a hand-painted menu, in the room the architects built.
Curator’s note
The company roasts its own on two Lorings, and the bags name the cooperative, the altitude and the process — the Rwanda Nyampinga is washed bourbon from a women's cooperative in Nyaruguru at 1,760 meters. A roaster that specific about a lot ought to date the bag, and this one never does, so ask what came off the machine this week.
The coffee
One roasting operation supplies all four Goodboybob cafes and the wholesale accounts, on an S15 Falcon in Torrance for regular production and an S35 Kestrel at the Pulley Collective for the bigger runs. Retail single origins name the cooperative down to the farmer count — 432 smallholders on the Ethiopia Goro Muda at 2,050 to 2,300 meters — though no product page prints a roast date, and the FAQ gives only a weekly roasting cadence instead.
Dunsmuir Institute Architects and fullBRANCH built it from old factory brick, marble mosaic and old railroad wood trestle, around a walk-up L-shaped marble bar, with the menu hand-painted by brand designer Madeleine Ignon. The room shares a building with Erich Joiner's production company and its VR theater, and it was clearly built by people used to being looked at.
