Curator’s note

The coffee arrives here already finished: the company's own roast, manual brew on Kalita Wave, a Guatemala Santa Marta Geisha as the specialty pour. The room arrived finished too, and not by Goodboybob — they moved into Deus Ex Machina's Venice build and kept the concrete bar and floors and the white wall tile exactly as they found them, so the credit belongs to the motorcycle shop.

The coffee

The coffee is roasted by the company itself at facilities in Torrance and at Pulley Collective, the same roast supplying every Goodboybob cafe, with manual brew running on Kalita Wave through Poursteady systems. The specialty pour at this counter is a Guatemala Santa Marta Geisha, named by origin and varietal, and retail bags name cooperative and altitude, like the Rwanda lot from the Nyampinga women's cooperative at 1,760 meters, though roast dates are not printed.

The counter sits inside Deus Ex Machina's Venice space, and Goodboybob kept what was already there — concrete bar and floors, white wall tile, repurposed wood — deliberately, the founder framing it as honoring the host rather than making a new statement. Goodboybob's own architecture lives at the Santa Monica flagship; here it is a guest, and behaves like one.
