Lumen Coffee
A Yerevan-born roaster in Frogtown, sharing a room with a film lab
Curator’s note
Shant Ghazar dials the profiles, more than ten years into coffee since he started at Kalei in Beirut, and the nine lots on the web store all come off the founders' own place in Azusa — a Bolivian Gesha at one end, a washed Halo Beriti Yirgacheffe at the other. The Blake Ave room came from London's DA BUREAU: barrel-vaulted storefront, red lacquered floors, custom steel furniture, sharing the address with a film lab.
The coffee
Lumen roasts its own coffee in Azusa, and all nine web-store lots print region, variety, process and altitude, though no product page carries a roast date.
Lumen's second Los Angeles storefront shares its space with Karmir Film Lab, which puts an espresso bar and a working film lab behind one door. Two trades that both live on patience and exact timing is not a pairing anyone lands on by accident.
