Curator’s note

Mark Bell, the principal owner, has gone to Guatemala, El Salvador and Oaxaca to watch the coffee get made, which is further than most sourcing decisions ever go. Doing good from farm to cup is how the shop puts it, and those trips are what keep the phrase honest.

The coffee

Everything is roasted in house on a 10kg Mill City, blends and single origins, and the counter runs direct trade pour-overs beside espresso off Sanremo Cafe Racers. Nothing the shop publishes names where any of it grew, not even the country.

The room

Concrete floors, exposed ceiling beams, fresh paint and bright light make a minimalist, industrial space that holds a couch and coffee table and a standing bar at the back. The cups and plates are pottery by Ryan Shoemaker, a local maker whose photographs also hang on the walls.
