Curator’s note

Taking over the Packing House space Augie's had just vacated is a nervy move for a shop that started as a garage pop-up, and Iron & Kin's shelf reads like it belongs there — four or five of its own roasts at a time, each named down to the farm. A $5 rotating pour over sits on the board beside the Affirmation Lattes, which is the shop's whole personality in one line.

The coffee

House-roasted single origins run four or five deep at a time with Guatemala, Colombia and Ethiopia as the usual anchors, and the honey-processed Guatemala San Jose Poaquil is printed with plum, cherry and sugar cane.

Iron & Kin took the Packing House room Augie's left in the summer of 2020 and runs it retro: raised ceilings with skylights doing the lighting, mid-century tables and chairs, white hexagon tile behind the bar, wood paneling around it. It is a room that runs on daylight — a good look for a roaster that started in a garage.
