Barefoot Coffee Roasters
Curator’s note
Barefoot's line for itself is serious coffee and happy people, and this room is where the second half gets literal: a tap room pouring craft beer, wine and kombucha from three in the afternoon. The coffee side holds up its end with daily cupping and every drink built by hand to order, which is more discipline than a beach cafe with a beer list needs to bother with.
The coffee
The roastery buys from producers it has worked with for more than thirteen years and pays at least 25 percent above the Fair Trade export price, and the shelf runs named lots like San Rafael Tarrazu and Yirgacheffe Aricha beside blends called The Beast, Cerberus and The Boss. The bar opened with a Slayer Steam and Mahlkönig EK43, PEAK and E65S grinders, with the filter side on a Bonavita and a Curtis G4, both automatic.
The room
A LEED certified architect drew the 1,300 square feet: warm reclaimed wood on the walls and the countertops, and bi-fold doors that open onto a 540 square foot patio. Umbrella seating, a fire table and a dog-friendly rule give nearly a third of the square footage to the open air, which on this coast is a fair bet.
